Zanzibar travel photography

ZANZIBAR – Travel Photography

Just before our winter kicked off, I found myself as a travel photographer on the tropical Zanzibar Island, off the coast of east Africa to catch a last bit of sun before heading back to the Cape of Storms.

Zanzibar has ample opportunities for a travel photographer. These photo opportunities revealed themselves around every bend from the crystal clear waters on the reef to the Middle Eastern style architecture, from the amazing woodwork on the doors of some of the buildings in stone town to the everyday life of the very friendly people living on the island.

I was privileged to have a photography student / padawan / willing model / and a great companion accompany me on this journey. Thank you very much Carmeni for your help. Together, we had a great photographic adventure and more than enough time to enjoy the trip as well. We captured the beauty of the island whilst enjoying a few Dawa cocktails on the way!

Medical photo in the Annual Report

We’re proud to announce that a medical photo we took in the operating theater, made it into the 2014 Annual Report of Smith & Nephew. As seen in the photo, the doctor from the Arthroplasty Academy is performing a hip replacement with the help of another docter’s supervision.

Professional medical photos and/or video can be used in a variety of ways. Marketing and training needs to be as visual as possible and therefore you’ll need to consider using a professional at all times. The photographer also need to understand how it works in the operating room and the limitations that needs to be taken into consideration.

SABGA

SABGA Golf Open 2014

The SABGA Golf Open  field included the three SA golfers who have Protea Colours, namely Garrett Slattery (the defending gross champion, and current International Blind Golf B2 World Champion), Leon Strydom (the defending stableford champion) and Johan Kotze (the 2012 stableford winner). Ernst Conradie (who performed well in the 2013 British Blind Open) as well as the up and coming Manie Blom and Morne Els made up the local contingent. The competition was boosted by the presence of top Irish golfer Wally Roode, playing in his first SA Open event.

The gross competition was divided into the sight categories B3 (for players with a visual acuity of below 10%) and B2 (for players with a visual acuity of below 5%). This is in line with international practice, and is done in recognition of the fact that as eyesight reduces to very low levels the game becomes increasingly challenging.

I had a great workout on this day, as I ran around on the course with the players to capture them in action. It turned out one can work out a sweat on the golf course!

Fashion Photo Shoot – Roots & Fiction

Chance brought this talented fashion designer from the Netherlands across my path. After discussions, location scouting and a drink we came up with the following photo shoot for her new fashion range called Roots & Fiction. This line consists of exclusively designed, double-sided miniskirts, for the ‘flamboyant 21st century femme’. These skirts are wearable inside and out, outside for happy colours and a more naughty vibe on the inside. A big thank you to the support team who made this photo shoot possible – we had a lot of fun! Have a look at Devina’s webpage for more info: www.miauwww.com

Architecture photos -Studio ABM

I had the privilege to spend a very interesting architecture photo day with the 2 architects from Studio ABM. Driving around the Boland and surrounding suburbs to document some architecture photos of work that they were involved with in the past.

Ranging from private homes to a spectacular music hall, we visited all the sites and took architecture photos for them for their architect portfolio. This is a great way to immortalize one’s work for easy showcasing to potential clients.

You can be sure to see some more brilliant work from these two architects in the near future.

Have a look at some of our similar work done for other architecture photo projects.

Blackstoneradio Durbanville

Blackstoneradio Video Launch Durbanville

Sweet Mary Jane’ is the second single of Blackstoneradio’s debut album, Out of Rock. A noticeable step away from their signature groove rock style of music, the hip-swaying, southern folk song lends a fresh new perspective into the band’s musical ingenuity. Following their national search for a leading lady in the video, Blackstoneradio found a script-perfect candidate in the form of Jacqueline Roux. As a talented singer/songwriter herself, Jacqueline performed six of her own compositions at the official video launch event.

Set in the leafy northern suburbs of Cape Town, Altydgedacht Wine Estate played host to the event with great food and drink on offer by the Eat@altydgedacht restaurant.

It was an absolute pleasure to photograph this band at this venue and I had a great time with all the lekker people and beers!

Snacks and Darling beer on tap were served to a select group of fans on a lovely spring evening on the wine farm. Jacqueline Roux is the star in the music video, but she also proved to be a promising singer/songwriter when she opened for Blackstoneradio! Next was an impressive performance from Blackstoneradio. Be sure to follow them so as to not miss their next performance!

The Pot & Spoon Pop-up

Ever heard of a pop–up restaurant?

It’s a new growing trend that started overseas and made its way to Joburg and Capetown. And now even Durbanville has its very own pop-up restaurant scene. I found myself invited to the Pot & Spoon pop-up restaurant, held at Café Ruby on the Klein Roosboom winery just outside Durbanville.

What it basically entails is that the pop-up chef moves into an established restaurant for one evening, bringing his own flair, ideas and skills to the table, while using the facilities of the venue.

The evening brought us a stunning six course meal that left the taste buds tantalized. Particularly memorable was the deconstructed cheesecake. It was accompanied by the best of Klein Roosboom’s wines, and set in a cosy and stylish atmosphere.

If you like good food, ambiance and a good time (and let’s be honest, who doesn’t?), visit The Pot and Spoon on Facebook to find out about their next event.

Studio ABM Photo shoot

Studio AMB was founded by two creative and professional architects who decided to team up and enter the market. Andre and Bendery combine old school with new style as their creative powers merge to form Studio ABM. Any new small business needs to enter the market with a unique image.  That’s why I visited their studio to do a photo shoot that they can use to promote and market themselves in a professional way. Andre and Bendery are spontaneous and always ready for a good laugh and we had a great time taking the shots.

Mayfair Wellness photo shoot

Mayfair Wellness Centre in Somerset West has been around for a while, but is currently going into a new phase. They recently launched their new look. This coincided with a new website, renovations and branding. As a contribution to the new look and feel, I was asked to do a group photo shoot to provide a few photographs to use in the marketing material. It was a great deal of fun – truly never a dull moment with the Mayfair team! The people at Mayfair are all experts in their different fields, from Ozone treatments, herbal medicine, yoga, and Tai Chi to the deliciously healthy deli. Be sure to visit Mayfair Centre to find the means to live a healthier life!
